Members at The Cedars of Chapel Hill are embracing new fitness opportunities thanks to a partnership with NIFS, a national leader in senior wellness programming.

Michele Baker, The Cedars fitness center manager, was hired by NIFS to implement new standards for fitness testing, exercise prescription, and Member onboarding. With NIFS’ national presence in senior living communities, Michele and The Cedars now have the expertise and support needed to maintain their leadership position in Chapel Hill with top-tier fitness programs and services.

In just one month, we’ve seen how dedicated Members are to their health and fitness! With around 40 land and aqua classes offered, there were 898 visits from 129 Members. “I’m enjoying all the classes I’m taking!” shared Member Linda Birnbaum. Individualized exercise programming is also a popular service. Michele recently completed a fitness evaluation to help a Member meet their personal goals. “I feel better after exercise, and Michele does a great job!” said John Haywood.

As NIFS’ partnership with The Cedars continues, Members can expect more personalized service, customized programming and specialized offerings like Wellness Symposiums, Balance Redefined, and Fall Prevention programs. The community will also have continued access to the NIFS leadership team for ongoing consultation on fitness center operations, equipment selection, and integrating exercise programs with life enrichment activities.

In a Life Plan community, seamless coordination between services is essential. NIFS will support this by collaborating with dining services, physical therapy, and other departments to ensure a well-rounded wellness experience for Members.
